The evening began at 6:30 with a recitation of the Rosary in the church led by our Prelate, Helen Biemer.

Following the Rosary, Vice-President Sandy Ragozine called the meeting to order with approximately 16 members in attendance. She introduced Father Steven Anderson as our ‘surprise’ guest speaker. He shared a reflection about the importance of the Sacred Tridium and how we could and should experience these three days that make up one church season. Members were then asked to share their memories about the Sacred Tridium.

Sandythanked all members who donated to theSt. Joseph’s table. There were no leftover baked goods and over $300 was donated from the sale of these goods.

The outing to the Yolanda Barco Institute provided those in attendance with a tour of the facility and a wonderful program followed by a great lunch.

Marilyn Reilly presented a treasurer’s report with an ending balance of $2,279.29.

Secretary Sue Treacy read the minutes from the previous meeting. With no changes or corrections, the minutes were approved as read.

 Old Business

Members were reminded to complete and turn in the scrapbook surveys to Mary Anne Shay by May 1.

Marilyn Reilly provided an update of planning for the Card Party to be held on May 8. She is unable to locate tickets for the Chinese Auction and asked if anyone knew where they were stored. Sue Keas previously donated rolls of tickets that were located in the closet in the Annex. Sandy saw tickets when cleaning the closet and will check upstairs in the church. Sue Saulsbery will order rolls of tickets from Oriental Trading Company.

Marilyn distributed envelopes containing 50/50 tickets for members to sell. She has sent publicity to the local papers and will have the event announced in the church bulletin. Marilyn would like to use silverware rather than plastic utensils since we now have a dishwasher available in the kitchen. She has ordered 1 ½ hams in the past and would like to reduce the order to 1 ¼ hams this year due to excessive leftovers last year. She will also cut back on the number of rolls being ordered. We still have canisters of lemonade in the closet to be used for the event. She announced that Vicki White will return at the end of April.

Sandy asked the members if they knew how many years the ARS has hosted the card party. Members in attendance were unable to answer this question. Sandy found cookbooks from the church anniversary and would like to sell them at the card party for $1.00.

Members were reminded to bake 3 dozen fancy cookies for the reception to honor the RCIA candidates following the Easter Vigil on April 7.

 New Business

Linda Helch is chairwoman for First Communion which will be celebrated on May 6.

The Pro-Life Carnation sale will be held after masses on May 12 and 13.

The annual Memorial Day pie sale will be held on Saturday, May 26.

Mary Anne Shay suggested that members should go to the treasurer at meetings to purchase 50/50 tickets and make Sunshine donations rather than have the treasurer go to members for these purchases.

The 50/50 winner for $7.00 was Marilyn Reilly.

Pat Saeger shared eggs that her brother has dyed. He continues this Ukrainian art that has been passed down through her family. Sandy thanked our hostesses Pat Saeger, Sue Keas and Joanne Cunningham.

Helen Biemer shared a closing prayer from ‘Pray Lent’.

Sue Saulsbery made a motion to adjourn the meeting, which was seconded by Marilyn Reilly.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:25.

Respectfully submitted, Sue Treacy

This year’s Parish Feast Day, held on December 11, 2011, was a huge success! A re-enactment of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe appearing to Juan Diego was presented by the third grade religious education class. They did a great job. A fabulous dinner, with a great assortment of casseroles accompanied by the traditional ham was enjoyed by all. A Holiday Breakfast Basket was raffled to support Sister Parish Projects and this effort raised $115.00. This was the first dinner event for the parish utilizing our new kitchen. It is really a state of the art kitchen and will serve us well for many years to come.
Watch the Sister Parish bulletin board in the months of the new year. Each month will display a poster of festivals and celebrations in Mexico, many of these observed by our own Sister Parish.
