The evening began at 6:30 with a recitation of the Rosary in the church led by our Prelate, Helen Biemer.

Following the Rosary, Father Steven Anderson introduced Michale Brawn who volunteers with an organization out of Pittsburgh named Hope for Hispanolia. He makes two yearly trips to the Dominican Republic to help the local people. His group has built an orphanage, dug a well and built a filtration plant where the people can sell water. Each trip costs approximately $1,200 per person and donations can be made at www.hopefor hispanolia or through the Edinboro United Methodist Church. Sandy Ragozine announced that Father Steve will be making a donation from Altar Rosary in treasurer Marilyn Reilly’s absence.

No Treasurer’s report was given due to Marilyn Reilly’s absence.

Old Business

Sue Saulsbery turned in $12 to Sue Treacy from the sale of Streakless cloths. Sue Treacy will hold onto the money until Treasurer, Marilyn Reilly returns.

Mary Anne Shay displayed and discussed the scrapbook that she has assembled, and she thanked Joanne Cunningham for her assistance.

New Business

Sandy Ragozine reminded the members about the Card Party to be held on May 8. Marilyn Reilly asked Sandy to have the group think about food donations and basket donations for the Chinese auction. She also reminded the members to pay their $5.00 dues if not done so already.

Father Steve will be providing parishioners with ‘Little Black Books’ for Lent again this year. Sandy encouraged ARS members to read these materials. Father Steve announced that the church will host a three night bible study based on St. John’s Illustrated Bible. The discussion, based on art, will include the Crucifixion, Resurrection and Transformation.

The next Book Club meeting is scheduled for February 16 at Mary O’s. The group has read the book “A Stolen Life” by Jaycee Dugard.

On March 22, 23, 24 and 25, “Late Night Catechism” will be shown at the Bayfront Convention Center in Erie for a cost of $37.50. Sandy suggested organizing a group to attend this show.

Father Steve would like Altar Rosary Members to ‘kick off’ the Clock of Sorrows project, which will portray the burden that you carry.

ARS will host two dinner and movie nights to be held on March 4 and 18. Each evening will begin with a picnic dinner at 5:00 followed by a movie. The March 4 video features Matthew Kelly’s ‘Eucharistic Reconciliation’. Father Steve has purchased 500 copies of his book “Rediscovering Catholicism”. These books regularly sell for $18.00, but could be bought for $2.00 if they would be given away. Father Steve will give the books out in March. March 18 will feature the video ‘The Way’ with Martin Sheen.

ARS will host the Soup and Bread meal on March 9. A list of volunteers and soup donations will be distributed at the March meeting.

OLQA has again joined the local ministerium to host lunches during Lent. Our church will host a luncheon on February 29.

Father Steve announced that there are 6, possibly 7 candidates in the RCIA program. He has asked ARS to host a reception for this group following the Easter Vigil at 10:30 on April 7.

Sandy reminded the group to donate baked goods for St. Joseph’s table to be held after masses on March 18. Volunteers are needed after each mass to set up and distribute the baked goods.

The handbooks that were not picked up in the Rectory have been returned to ARS for distribution.

Sandy passed around pictures of ARS events for the group to view and asked that they be given to Mary Anne Shay to be included in the scrapbook that she is assembling.

The 50/50 winner for $6.00 was Joanne Cunningham.

Helen Biemer read a closing prayer, ‘Act of Faith, Hope and Charity’.

Nancy August made a motion to adjourn the meeting, which was seconded by Sue Saulsbery.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00.

Respectfully submitted, Sue Treacy

This year’s Parish Feast Day, held on December 11, 2011, was a huge success! A re-enactment of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe appearing to Juan Diego was presented by the third grade religious education class. They did a great job. A fabulous dinner, with a great assortment of casseroles accompanied by the traditional ham was enjoyed by all. A Holiday Breakfast Basket was raffled to support Sister Parish Projects and this effort raised $115.00. This was the first dinner event for the parish utilizing our new kitchen. It is really a state of the art kitchen and will serve us well for many years to come.
Watch the Sister Parish bulletin board in the months of the new year. Each month will display a poster of festivals and celebrations in Mexico, many of these observed by our own Sister Parish.
