OLQA Altar Rosary Minutes
November 3, 2015
The evening began at 6:30 PM with the recitation of the rosary in the church. The meeting followed in the hall and was called to order by Vice President, Sue Treacy, in the absence of President Rosann Bost, with 30 members present. The minutes of the previous meeting of October 6, 2015 were provided to the members and one correction was made: the Parish Feast Day celebration is Saturday, December 12, not Sunday, December 13, as previously noted. Barb Boyer made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected. Pat Saeger seconded the motion and the minutes, with the correction, were approved.

Linda Wasson presented the treasurer’s report with an ending balance of $8,079.90. Barb Mulligan made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report, which was seconded by Joanne Cunningham and the treasurer’s report was approved.

The minutes of the October 6th meeting were mailed to shut-ins, Vicki Morandini and Helen Pieszak.

Sandy Ragozine reported that Rebecca Novosel will not need help cleaning the church until the spring. At that time, a date and time will be scheduled.

Sue Treacy mentioned that the role of the “Publicity Chairman” would be removed from the by-laws.

The Parish Feast Day celebration is Saturday, December 12, following the 5 PM Mass in conjunction with the Antorche Guadalupana. Vicki Leap is the liaison between the Antorche committee and the ARS and is in charge of the food. Vicki has asked the ARS members to help with setup of the hall and for desserts for the dinner. A sign up sheet was passed around for members to volunteer for setup help and/or providing desserts.

Nancy August thanked the membership for all their help, in her absence, with the rummage sale this year, which netted $2,359.74. Nancy was not available for the sale because of deaths in her family that week. Nancy also thanked Vicki White for her help with the advertising and for her donation for the advertising on Armstrong Cable.

Twenty-three members celebrated Mass on Thursday, October 22, at 8 AM and then went to breakfast at Mr. Mike’s with Father Jeff to honor his day on the diocesan “Pray for Priests” calendar. Father Jeff would like to do this again. So, on Thursday, November 12, members are invited to attend Mass at 8 AM and then go to breakfast at Mr. Mike’s restaurant (the old Fairway 12). Pat Gilfoyle also mentioned that a group recently went to lunch at the Bent Fork restaurant in Greenville. The food was good and not too expensive.

The Graduation Award Committee needs a chairperson. Pat Taylor has chaired this event the past couple of years with a committee. Mary Ann Shay would like to be a part of this committee. The chairperson would coordinate sending the high school seniors information on applying for the annual $1,000 award, which is awarded at the Baccalaureate Mass in June.

At Christmas time, the ARS gives a gift to the shut-ins of the parish. Father Lucas gives a list of current shut-ins. Linda Joyce will be the chairperson for this event with help from Barb Mulligan and Linda Wasson. In the past, the ARS has given dish gardens. Several different ideas were presented at the meeting – candy dish, tray of cookies, fruit basket and hand/body lotion. More discussion will be held at the December meeting.

Leslie Conlin will again chair the College Boxes event. College students’ current addresses are needed. Small items for the goodie boxes can be left in the hall kitchen. Boxes will be packed in early December, so the students have them before their semester finals.

Meeting Programs: There will be three 2016 ARS meetings with guest speakers, from March through November. Sandy Ragozine is no longer Program Chairperson.

Installation of Officers will be held on Sunday, April 17. Following the 10:30 Mass, there will be a luncheon in the hall.

The ARS Christmas party will be held on Sunday, December 6, at 1 PM at the Iroquois Boating Club. A buffet dinner will be served. Cost for members and their guests will be $12. Deadline to make a reservation in December 1. Nancy August promises a great meal and great fellowship and a few surprises!

Four new memberships were received this month and 2 members updated their information.

Sandy Ragozine stated that the new funeral altar cloth and pall, matching Father Jeff’s funeral chasuble, was very beautiful at the last funeral. These items were purchased by ARS.

Sandy also mentioned that there were not many decorations any more that could be used to decorate tables for parish functions. After some discussion, JoAnn Elwell made a motion, seconded by Barb Mulligan, to purchase some new items, spending not more than $100. Motion carried.

Mary Ann Shay made a motion to approve all New Business. It was seconded by Nancy August. Motion carried.

Father Jeff had RCIA in the rectory and was not able to attend the ARS meeting. He wanted to assure everyone of his continued support and to keep up the good work of the ARS.

JoAnn Elwell mentioned that she has sent several thank you cards and sympathy cards since the last meeting,

Pat Kaider mentioned that there was a family with four children in need of help with dinners while the mother has surgery and recuperates. Any help from the ARS members would be appreciated.

Denise Thomas won the 50/50 for $14.50. Sue Treacy thanked our hostesses for the evening, Linda Joyce, Denise Thomas, and Ruth Jezak.

Linda Wasson announced an Ultreya would be held at OLQA on Friday, November 13, at 7 PM for the Women’s Cursillo #242.

Joanne Cunningham read a closing prayer. Mary Ann Shay made a motion to adjourn. Linda Wasson seconded the motion. Meeting was adjourned at 7:51 PM.

Respectfully submitted, Sue Drexler
