September 16th, 2017 by Sue Drexler

The evening began at 6:30 PM with Benediction and the recitation of the rosary in the church, led by Joanne Cunningham, Prelate. The business meeting followed in Anderson Hall and was called to order by President Sandy Ragozine at 7:13 PM with 24 members in attendance and Father David Carter, who offered an opening prayer.

Minutes of the previous meeting of August 1, 2017 were provided to the members. Sis Lane is not on the Rummage Sale Committee as noted in the minutes. With this one correction noted, Margaret Staahl made a motion to approve the minutes. Bonnie Smith seconded the motion and the minutes were approved with one correction.

Linda Wasson presented the treasurer’s report with a beginning balance of $2,459.84 and an ending balance of $2,436.07. Linda Helch made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report, which was seconded by Linda Joyce. Motion carried and the treasurer’s report was approved.

The large altar server cassock, previously discussed, has been ordered but not received. Sandy Ragozine thanked all who helped in any way with the Labor Day Weekend pie sale. Forty pies were donated and sold. Most of them were sold after the 5:00 Mass.

Barb Mulligan, chairperson of the Rummage Sale, stated she is making good progress. The sale will be held Friday, September 29, from 9 AM until 6 PM. Saturday, September 30, from 9 AM until 1 PM will be “bag day.” Each bag will be $2.00. Tables will be set up on Wednesday, September 20 & Thursday, September 21. All tables will be labeled with category signs. There will be a cashier at each table this year. Merchadise drop-off hours are Monday, September 25 from 10 AM until 6 PM, Tuesday, September 26 from 1 PM until 7:30 PM and Wednesday, September 27 from 10 AM until 6 PM. Irene Frey will be in charge of the “cafe” – the food items available for purchase by the public. Sign up sheets were passed around to volunteer for donated food items and to man the sale on both days. Rosann will put it in the bulletin to advertise.

Claire Waldron will present our fall retreat on Saturday, October 7, the feast of the Holy Rosary, from 9 AM until 2 PM. The same format will be used as last time. Claire will meet with Father David soon to set the agenda. A light breakfast will start the day beginning at 8:30 AM. Lunch will also be served.

Mary Ann Shay, chair of the nominating committee, presented the slate of officers.
President – not yet filled. Joanne Cunningham originally agreed to accept the presidency, however, she is accepting the office of president in another organization she belongs to because of unforeseen circumstances and doesn’t feel she can properly fulfill the duties of both organizations. She is willing to take on the presidency of Altar Rosary in the second year of the term if needed.
Vice President – Bonnie Smith
Secretary – Megan McCoy
Treasurer – Linda Helch
Prelate – JoAnn Elwell
Because of the opening for president, by a show of hands, it was decided to hold election of officers at the October meeting.

The grill, which was one of the prizes in our Chinese Auction at the Parish Dinner in August, was donated back to the parish. Sandy stated that a reservation has been made on Sunday, December 3 at the Iroquois Boating Club for our annual Christmas party, beginning at 1 PM. The chili and cornbread supper will be held at our October meeting. Rebecca Novosel is hoping to be with us at our October meeting to share her experience on her recent mission trip to Haiti. Sunday, October 1, at 2 PM, the blessing of pets will take place in the parking lot. Our local Franciscans will join us. Instead of the boxes of goodies sent to our college students before their semester exams in December, it was suggested to send them gift cards instead. The postage on the boxes mailed goes up each year. A Sheetz gift card was suggested. This way they can use it for whatever they need – food or gasoline. The Parish Feast Day will again be celebrated in December. There was a discrepancy in the date for the celebration – either Saturday, December 9 or Sunday, December 10. Sandy will check with Pat Pineo for the correct date. The choir has reserved the Barbara J to cruise and view the Christmas trees around the lake again this year. Cost will be minimal and 20 places have been blocked for Altar Rosary participation.

Margaret Staahl spoke of the Samaritan “summer sale.” They will set up on Wednesday, September 6 and the sale of all their summer clothing will be held on Thursday, September 7 in Anderson Hall. Everything will cost $.25.

Father David thanked the group for all they do for the parish. He is impressed and excited for all the activity of the parish, as a whole.

Marlene Gross was the winner of the 50/50 for $10.50. Sandy thanked the hostesses for the evening: Veronica Valentine, Rita Valentine and Marlene Gross.

Father David offered a closing prayer.

Linda Wasson made a motion to adjourn. Rosann Bost seconded the motion. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 8:06 PM.

Next business meeting is October 3, 2017.
Respectfully submitted,

Sue Drexler, Secretary
As a side note: the Parish Feast Day celebration will be Saturday, December 9.
