ARS Minutes: 4-4-17

The evening began at 6:30 PM with the recitation of the rosary in the church, led by Diane Fritz, in the absence of Joanne Cunningham, prelate. The meeting followed the rosary in Anderson Hall and was called to order by President Sandy Ragozine at 7:04 PM with 30 members in attendance and Father Jeff came after RCIA.

The minutes of the previous meeting of March 7, 2017 were provided to the members and with no corrections made, Mary Anne Shay made a motion to approve the minutes. Barb Boyer seconded he motion and the minutes were approved.

Linda Wasson presented the treasurer’s report with a beginning balance of $4,080.52 and an ending balance of $2,600.32. Barb Mulligan made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report, which was seconded by Pat Taylor. Motion carried and the treasurer’s report was approved.


Sandy Ragozine thanked Claire Waldron for presenting our recent retreat on March 25, which was attended by 19 ladies, and thanked the committee of Pam Humes, Ruth Ann Cooper, Dolly Werner, and Ruth Jezak. Claire thanked Rosann Bost for her help also. Everyone “participated beautifully.” Sandy also thanked everyone who helped with the recent Lenten Luncheon and the Soup & Bread Supper on March 17. Donations for the ARS “Taste of Italy” basket for the “Night at the Races” basket raffle were received. Barb Mulligan will put the basket together. We did not purchase a new chalice for Father Jeff. A new liner was put in his current chalice. Leslie Conlin presented a written report on the First Reconciliation brunch this past Saturday. There was one correction in her report. Two hundred dollars ($200) was budgeted and receipts for $99.42 were submitted, according to Linda Wasson.


The annual Card Party will be held on May 9. Entrance into the hall will be the double glass doors, to avoid congestion near the kitchen. Doors will open at 5 PM, with drinks and appetizers available at that time. The buffet will begin at 6 PM. The basket raffle will begin after dinner and the 50/50 winner will be announced at the end of the evening. No 50/50 tickets were mailed to the members this year. Everyone must purchase an admission ticket for $10 and will include the buffet dinner and a Chinese Auction ticket. Additional Chinese Auction tickets and 50/50 tickets will be available for sale. Sign up sheets were passed around during the meeting for donations of baskets for the Chinese Auction, for volunteers to set up and decorate the hall on Monday, May 8 at 10 AM, for food donations for the buffet, and for helpers to clean up. Linda Joyce and Mary Anne Shay will sell admission tickets. Linda Helch and Nancy August will deliver prizes to the winners. Pat Saeger and Claire Waldron will be the “floaters,” to help where needed. Sue & Carol Saulsbery and Joanne Cunningham will sell the Chinese Auction tickets. Marlene Gross and Veronica Valentine will sell 50/50 tickets. Linda Wasson will be the banker. JoAnn Elwell, Sue Simonetta and Barb Mulligan will head the clean up crew. Barb Mulligan will be the MC. Pam Humes, Linda Helch and Ruth Jezak is the kitchen committee. Members were asked to take posters to different businesses to advertise the Card Party. Advertising will also include the newspapers and notifications to the surrounding parishes.

Claire Waldron declined her $100 stipend for presenting the ARS retreat. Mary Donegan, JoAnn Elwell and Claire Waldron purchased adult coloring books and colored pencils for hospice patients with the money.

We will have our annual pie sale on Saturday morning, May 27, beginning at 9 AM in Anderson Hall.

We will clean the church for the Triduum and Easter on Wednesday, April 12, beginning at 9 AM. Any help will be appreciated.


“Night at the Races” will be held on Saturday evening, April 29, beginning right after the 5 PM Mass. The committee includes Jay Verno, Tim & Rosann Bost, Tony & Sandy Ragozine, and Tom & Mary Donegan. Admission tickets are $15 and include dinner, beer and soft drinks. BYOB. There will be a Chinese Auction. Horses can be purchased & named for $10. Winning horses in each race win $50.

The ARS will sponsor a Carnation Sale on Mother’s Day weekend, May 13-14, after all three Masses. Diane Fritz and Linda Wasson will sell carnations after the 5 PM Mass. Megan McCoy and Amanda Darke will sell after the 8 AM Mass. Barb Mulligan will sell after the 10:30 Mass.

Barb Mulligan will chair the Rummage Sale on September 29 & 30 (Friday and Saturday). Saturday will be Bag Day.

The Golf Outing is scheduled for Sunday, July 23, at Whispering Pines Golf Course, beginning at 1 PM. This outing will benefit the parish.

The Art Fest will be held on May 20-23. John Meyerhoff is chairman.

The Altar Rosary Society members will again provide altar flowers during the month of May. Call the office if you would like to provide the flowers any weekend of May.


The floor in Anderson Hall, the kitchen & rest rooms will be replaced with CSA monies. The outside ramp at the entrance near the kitchen will also be redone. Bids for floor replacement will begin soon. This project will be done in September after the hall will no longer be needed to weekend liturgies.

The winner of the 50/50 raffle was Marlene Gross for $9.50. Sandy thanked our hostesses for the evening: Pat Saeger, Sue Keas and Joanne Cunningham. Mary Anne Shay helped in Joanne’s absence. We recited the Hail Mary and Father Jeff offered a closing prayer.

Sue Treacy made a motion to adjourn. Veronica Valentine seconded the motion. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 8:03 PM
