March 31st, 2017 by Sue Drexler

The evening began at 6:00 with mass celebrated by Father Jeff Lucas. The meeting that followed was called to order by President Sandy Ragozine with 31 members in attendance. The minutes from the previous meeting were provided to the members and with no additions or corrections, Barb Mulligan made a motion to approve the minutes. Joanne Cunningham seconded the motion and the minutes were approved. Linda Wasson presented a treasurer’s report with an ending balance of $4,080.52. Rosann Bost made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report, which was seconded by Linda Helch and approved.

Old Business

Sandy reported that several thank-you cards were received from college students for the Christmas gift boxes that they received from the ARS and one thank you was received for a shut in gift. Joanne Cunningham reported that Linda Wasson and a small group of ARS members went to visit shut in church members and gave them small angel figurines. Sis Lane thanked the group for their visit on behalf of her husband.

New Business

The ARS will host the Lenten Soup and Bread meal on March 17. Members were asked to sign up to bring either soup or bread for the meal.

All women of the parish are invited to attend the ARS retreat on Saturday, March 25 from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Claire Waldron will present the program titled Annunciation “Living the Scriptures,” which will include breakfast and a light lunch.

Sandy suggested presenting a ‘Style Show’ at the April 4 meeting, which would feature clothing from the Holy Ground Thrift Shop. After discussion, it was decided to put this idea on hold.

Barb Mulligan volunteered to be chairman for the annual rummage sale to be tentatively held on September 29 and 30. More details will follow.

Mary Anne Shay attended the recent Stations of the Cross and was impressed with the age appropriate books with stickers that were used by the Religious Education Program to educate children and parents about the Stations of the Cross. Amanda Darke provided more information about these books. Linda Helch made a motion to purchase books from the same company about “How to Pray the Rosary.” Barb Mulligan seconded the motion, which was approved.

Barb Mulligan asked the members if they still wanted to have an installation of officers’ mass in the near future or just wait until after the new slate of officers are elected next year. After discussion, it was decided to have the special mass after the next election of officers.

Announcements

Members are reminded of the upcoming Lenten Lunches to be held on Wednesdays throughout Lent beginning at noon. OLQA will host lunches on March 8 and 29. Volunteers are welcomed to help in the kitchen. We will be partnering with Faith and Grace Church on March 29 and ARS members are asked to volunteer to provide desserts for that luncheon.

Father Jeff spoke about the Night at the Races fundraiser, which will be held on Saturday, April 29. Only 150 admission tickets will be sold at a cost of $15 each and will be sold after all masses. Horses can also be purchased for $10. Beer, soft drinks and finger foods will be provided. A Chinese Auction and 50/50 drawing will also be available. Sandy asked members to help donate to an ARS basket to be included in the Chinese Auction. After discussion, it was decided that the theme of our basket will be “A Taste of Italy” and members are asked to bring donated items to the April meeting.

Mary Anne Shay asked for volunteers to help her with the ARS scrapbook. Rosann Bost suggested that volunteers could work on the scrapbook during meetings.

Sandy advised members that preparations for a new church directory would begin in June.

Father Jeff encouraged members to attend the Bread and Soup meals and the Stations of the Cross that follow. He also reminded the members about the Lenten Lunches on Wednesdays throughout Lent. We have a strong ecumenical ministerium in our community and the religious leaders all work well together. Father Jeff’s chalice has had a problem with pitting and the recent replating did not work. Irene Frey made a motion to purchase a new chalice at a cost of $1,261.00. Ann Koscelak seconded the motion which was approved.

Sandy thanked our hostesses Margaret Staahl, Pam Humes, and Mary Anne Shay. Bonnie Smith won the 50/50 for $14.00 and graciously donated it back to the ARS. Joanne Cunningham read a closing prayer. Barb Mulligan made a motion to adjourn the meeting, which was seconded by Linda Helch. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Sue Treacy (Vice President) in the absence of the secretary
