ARS Minutes: 11-1-16

The evening began at 6:30 PM with the recitation of the rosary in the church, led by Joanne Cunningham, prelate. The meeting followed the rosary in the hall and was called to order by President Sandy Ragozine at 7:08 PM with 27 members in attendance and Father Jeff. We welcomed new members: Susan VanBuren, Mary Lou Banks, Julia Catalano, Elaine Zicarelli, Agnes Medrick, Dee Dee Morian, Claudia Predis, Pam McGonigle and Beth Grocé.

The minutes of the previous meeting of October 4, 2016 were provided to the members. There was one correction – the parish Feast Day dinner will be held after the 10:30 Mass on December 11, not December 18. Barb Mulligan made a motion to approve the minutes with one correction. JoAnn Elwell seconded the motion and the minutes were approved.

Linda Wasson presenter the treasurer’s report with a beginning balance of $5,648.63 and an ending balance of $5,660.13. Barb Boyer made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report, which was seconded by Veronica Valentine. Motion carried and the treasurer’s report was approved. Linda read a letter from Tom Donegan regarding the annual audit of the Altar Rosary financial books and the books are in order.


Leslie Conlin will chair the Gift Boxes for College Students project. The boxes will be packed on Tuesday, December 6, beginning at 2:45 PM in the hall. Items for the boxes can be dropped off in the kitchen between Dec. 2 & 6. Joanne Cunningham will serve as chairman of the Gifts for Shut-Ins project. The parish Feast Day will be celebrated on Sunday, December 11, following the 10:30 Mass. Help is needed for decorating the day before, for kitchen help the day of the dinner to receive and set up the tureens, and clean up. Sign up sheets were passes around to volunteer for any of these. The annual ARS Christmas Party will be held on Sunday, December 4, at the Iroquois Boating Club, beginning at 1 PM. A sign up sheet was passed around or you can call the office to make your reservation. The IBS is charging $20 per person for the dinner. There is no charge to attend the party if you are a member of the Altar Rosary Society. The ARS will pick up the tab. Father Jeff suggested that guests be allowed to attend for half of the cost of the dinner. Sue Treacy made a motion, seconded by Ann Koscelek, that you may bring a guest for $10. Motion carried. Sis Lane is, once again, collecting new sox for the Gifts for Kids program. Those attending the Christmas Party at the IBC are asked to bring sox for this project, in lieu of a gift exchange. Also on December 4, the choir has reserved the “Barbara J.” Altar Rosary members are invited at take part in this ride around the lake to see the Christmas trees lit up for $5.


Sandy announced that the trip to Kraynak’s in Sharon on Friday, December 11, has been cancelled due to lack of interest. Linda Wasson announced that there is an Ultreya for Cursillo on Friday, November 11, at 7 PM in the church. Rebecca Novosel has asked for help to spruce up the church for the coming holiday season. Anyone that can help is asked to be at the church on Tuesday, November 15, at 9 AM. Pat Kaider announced that the angel tags will be on the trees the weekend before Thanksgiving for the Gifts for Kids program. There are around 300 kids, 13 and under this year. Thursday, December 15, is the distribution day in the hall. The hall will be set up for the distribution on December 11 after the Feast Day dinner.


Father Jeff welcomed the new members. He stated that a budget for ARS is needed, acceptable to everyone. Ground was broken for the new cemetery garage. An addition to the PEC garage has also begun. This is being done to create a foyer for the PEC for students to be dismissed from one door. Prayers are requested for Father’s sister, Mary, who has cancer.
The last Theology Uncorked will be this Thursday evening. Saturday is the Morning of Reflection.

Sue Drexler was the lucky winner of the 50/50 drawing for $10.50.

Sandy thanked our hostesses for the evening: Ruth Jezak, Pat Gilfoyle and Carol Herchenroether. She also thanked anyone who brought cookies for tomorrow evening’s Memorial Mass.

Father Jeff led us in the Memorare, as a closing prayer.

Barb Mulligan made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Rosann Bost. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 7:57 PM.
