Altar Rosary Minutes: 3-1-16

The evening began at 6 PM with Mass celebrated by Fr. Jeff Lucas in the church. The first meeting of 2016 followed in the hall and was called to order by President Rosann Bost at 6:34 PM with 25 members present and 2 guests, Megan McCoy and Dee Dee Morian.

The minutes of the previous meeting were provided to the members and with no additions or corrections, Denise Thomas made a motion to approve the minutes. Amanda Darke seconded the motion and the minutes were approved.

Linda Wasson presented the treasurer’s report with an ending balance of $6,721.13. Mary Ann Shay made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Pat Saeger seconded the motion and the treasurer’s report was approved.

At Christmas time, the shut-ins of the parish were given a lighted cross by the Altar Rosary Society. The parish Feast Day Dinner / Antorche Run on December 12, 2015, was well attended. Thirteen “goodie” boxes were mailed to those college parishioners that we had addresses for. The total cost of this project was $84.50. Sue Treacy is working on arranging special programs for three of our meetings in 2016. One likely will be another fashion show with clothing items purchased at the thrift store.

On Friday, February 26, the Altar Rosary Society hosted the Lenten Soup & Bread Supper before the Stations of the Cross. Fourteen soups were donated and Altar Rosary purchased a variety of breads. Dinner & a Movie will be held on Sunday, March 6, at 5 PM. As of this meeting, the movie is unknown. First Reconciliation is scheduled for Saturday, March 19. Altar Rosary will provide a brunch after the sacrament for the students and their families. Leslie Conlin is in charge and has asked for help from members for set up, serving, and clean up. Pat Taylor has volunteered to again head the Graduation Award Committee. She will be responsible for mailing out the applications to the seniors in the Class of 2016. Applications will be due back sometime the end of May and will be awarded at the Baccalaureate Mass on Sunday, June 12. Nancy August is stepping down as chairperson of the Rummage Sale and Christmas Party due to some health and personal issues. The annual Card Party is Tuesday, May 10, from 5 PM until 9 PM. After some discussion, Sandy Ragozine made a motion, which was seconded by Bonnie Smith, to raise the price of the Card Party admission $10. Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 5 PM and dinner will be served at 6 PM. Since there is generally food left over, it was suggested to have left over containers available to take some food home. Pat Saeger will take care of arranging the printing of tickets with Hagan’s Business Machines. Amanda Darke stated she could pick the tickets up from Hagan’s. More discussion on the card party will be on the April agenda.

Installation of officers will take place on Sunday, April 17, at the 10:30 Mass. The rosary will be recited at 10 AM before Mass. Barb Mulligan is chairperson of this event. Following Mass, a brunch will be catered in the hall. Barb is in the process of securing pricing from John Gionti, Rebecca’s Restaurant, Mister Mike’s and Station 3. A notice will be put in the bulletin regarding the brunch and ask for reservations made by April 10. On April 3, Amanda Darke will speak at all three Masses on what the Altar Rosary Society is and what it does for the parish, hoping to attract prospective members. JoAnn Elwell asked if anyone knows of any parishioner in need of a card – get well, sympathy, thinking of you, etc. – to please call her. We are in need of cookies for the ecumenical Soup & Sandwich lunch on Wednesday, March 2, hosted by Faith & Grace Fellowship Church and Lake Lutheran.

Sandy Ragozine stated that 6-day candles would again be sold to make money for Work Camp. Sales will begin the weekend of May 7 & 8. Our parish picnic is scheduled for Sunday, August 28, at Msgr. Toland Park this year. Fried Bologna sandwiches will be served. The church will be cleaned for the Holy Week and Easter celebrations on Tuesday, March 15, beginning at 9 AM. All supplies will be furnished.

Father Jeff was unable to attend the meeting since he had RCIA class also scheduled.

It was noted that college boxes should be sent out no later than December 2 to arrive to the college students before their Christmas break begins and before their finals are over.

Since it is Lent, no refreshments were served. Diane Fritz won the 50/50 for $12.50.

Rosann said a closing prayer in the absence of Joanne Cunningham.

After no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:25 PM.
